Clinical Vignettes Online: A Tool for Measuring the Effectiveness of HIV Clinical Training
The AETC NEC is charged with increasing the capacity of local training providers to measure the outcomes of their training activities, specifically as they relate to changing the clinical practice behavior of the healthcare professionals trained. In order to measure the effectiveness of intensive, hands-on clinical training activities, the AETC NEC has developed a set of HIV patient vignettes simulating clinical practice, and an interactive online tool allowing trainees to respond as if providing care. Based on methods developed, validated and tested to measure the quality of care, the AETC NEC has adapted the approach so that when vignettes are administered before and after training, changes in trainees' scores reflect learning.
